PERSEO Biotechnology S.L. has been involved in the ongoing FUELGAE Project, which recently concluded a productive two-day general meeting in Espoo, Finland. It provided a valuable platform to showcase the progress made in the project’s first six months and outline the upcoming steps
The main objective of FUELGAE project is to develop an innovative model to produce advanced liquid biofuels, such as bioethanol, from various CO2 emissions sources, targeting two industrial sectors: hashtag#biorefinery and energy-intensive industries. This goal will be accomplished through the integration of a hashtag#microalgae pilot plant into their existing infrastructure.
Throughout the project, PERSEO Biotechnology S.L. will be one of the sites where a photo-bioreactor will be installed. This bioreactor will utilize CO2 generated from the hashtag#advancedbioethanol fermentation process to facilitate the growth of microalgae. PERSEO Biotechnology S.L. will be responsible for developing the process to produce 3G bioethanol from microalgal biomass rich in polysaccharides.
Upon the completion of the FUELGAE Project, it will make a significant contribution to advancing Europe’s scientific knowledge and global technological leadership in the field of hashtag#renewablefuels. This, in turn, will enhance the technological competitiveness of the partners and their role in transitioning the energy system to a fossil-free basis by 2050, especially in sectors like aviation and shipping. Furthermore, this initiative will align with the EU’s objectives for achieving energy independence.
